bemdesign.com is the online portfolio of, yours truly, Ben McElroy. Growing up in the Seattle region, art was always an integral part of my life, from the fine art galleries located in downtown Seattle to the regional plays of the Village Theater Company in Issaquah. The environment was positively brimming with art. In addition from an early age I loved to read. I particularly enjoyed the illustrations, the typography, the colors, and the presentation that helped to communicate the desired message of the books I read. My love of art expressed itself visually through the usual standard of school art projects. But I couldn't stop there. No, my school notes were dotted and lined with drawings, indicative of my passion to create.

My high school had a requirement of a senior project to graduate. I was interested in how modern technology (computers) were affecting the visual arts. My senior project compared different programs, to see their various strengths and see how they were used. In this process, I discovered Adobe Photoshop. A final aspect of my high school senior project was to use one of the programs reviewed, in this case Photoshop, to create a portfolio. I then presented my project and portfolio before a small group of professional graphic designers. They were impressed with what I had accomplished in under a year. It was at this point that I realized what I wanted to do for a career.

A university degree later, a powerful mixture of freelance and studio work experience under the belt, Flash designer certified, all sprinkled with various life experiences, here I am, passionate as ever about art and good design.
