I would guess that Penn State has more name recognition. Penn State has a better football team, historically and recently, plus they have that 100-year old coach (or whatever). Michigan State has a better basketball team recently. They had a great run (final four, I believe) in last year's NCAA tournament. Michigan has more FIRST Robotics Teams (second only to California). Michigan is (slightly) closer to Washington. Nittany Lions versus Spartans... In short, I dunno.
