And after much anguish and gnashing of teeth from horrified standards-loving web designers and developers, Microsoft decided against their previous approach and elected that IE 8 will now support standards first. The metatag will now be used to trigger IE7 rendering. A much better approach in my opinion. And the rumble of discontent fell away into quiet, but growing approval and even, possibly, heartfelt thanks.Oh yes. The obligatory link to the good news.

I am very happy too! This is a great decision in the long run. It will encourage people to use standards and build towards the future rather then the using the antiquated and error prone method of building a site against a specific browser.
